Attending a scientific conference is a costly undertaking, especially for students (or their supervisors who often have limited budgets to send students to conferences). Students are currently paying rates that are substantially lower (about 50%) than the actual costs to allow as many as possible young and upcoming scientists to benefit from attending the event. Unfortunately, with more and more students attending every year, without additional sponsorship to partially cover some of the costs for students SAWMA (as Non-Profit association) cannot continue to afford to make the lower rates possible for our student members.
With the above in mind we decided to start a special student fundraising effort, not only for this year’s event, but also for future events. Any donation, small or big will be used solely to assist with the reduction of registration fees for students attending the annual conference.
SAWMA is a registered Non-Profit association (077-639-NPO) and exempt from tax. Donations will not only help us to offer registration to students at substantial discounts, but could also encourage more young scientists to become involved with the SAWMA community and contribute to the long-term educational investment of future wildlife researchers and practitioners.
We would be honoured if you would accept our invitation to be an integral part of the helping students. We will also provide opportunities to enhance your visibility at the conference.
Please contact the SAWMA secretariat at office@sawma.co.za if you are interested to assist.
